Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) refers to integration of computers into the design and production process to improve productivity. The useful features of CAD include the ability to make change in the design easily, and validate designs against design rules. CAD models can also be used to simulate designs without building a physical prototype. We use CAD/CAM systems to automatically generate tool paths from 3D models, and simulate the cutting action on-screen.
